About Us

I began my practice in 1995 in Berryville, Virginia and ten years later moved the office to O'Sullivan Farms in Charles Town, West Virginia. The connection with O'Sullivan Farms began years ago when my mother-in-law, Ruth, mentored me in keeping the farm books. My passion for small business was birthed there and now I've come first circle; I’m the farm's CPA. I use what I learn navigating the complex issues of the farm business to guide my clients in their businesses.

Why I like being a CPA:
I’m a high achiever with strong values and it fulfills me to be part of a profession where those attributes are valued. “Accounting isn’t exactly a math field. It is more about problem-solving and working with others,” says Bill Balhoff, Chairman of the AICPA. I share his passion with both problem-solving and working with others, so it’s a good fit!

Being responsive to clients’ needs drives me to be a better CPA. Yes, I bring to the table certain technical skills, but more than that I bring critical decision making skills for the benefit of my clients.

To all my clients: thanks for letting me be part of your decision making!

A Well Rounded Education

As a graduate of the University of Virginia, I earned a Bachelor of Arts with distinction. After attending Shepherd College to take the accounting courses needed to sit for the CPA exam, I passed the grueling 2 ½ day CPA exam on my first sitting. It is required to take a minimum of 40 hours of continuing professional education annually in order to maintain my CPA license. I am licensed to practice in both Virginia and West Virginia.

In Step With Changing Client Needs

Every time Congress tries to simplify the tax code, they add even more complex rules and regulations. That makes it extremely difficult for the average person to be able to keep up with all the changes. Many folks comment to me that they always used to do their own taxes, but with the changes in the laws, it has become too burdensome to handle. That's where I can help. The primary focus of my practice is on helping individuals and small businesses with their accounting and tax needs.

Active in Professional Societies

As a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the national professional organization for all CPA's, and the PCPS, the A.I.C.P.A. Alliance for CPA firms, I act under its Code of Professional Conduct in order to maintain the highest degree of integrity in my practice. As a member of the Maryland Society of Accountants, I enjoy the high quality course work of its continuing professional education.

Providing Excellence in Client Service

By far, the most enjoyable part of my practice is meeting personally with my clients. It is very rewarding to me to be able to help guide my clients through the thorny maze of tax and financial issues. My clients have come to expect professional competent services in a relaxed atmosphere. No one is afraid to ask questions. Many clients have commented that they actually have fun getting their taxes done in my office.

Awards

In 1998, I was honored to win the U. S. Small Business Administration's Accountant Advocate of the Year for the state of West Virginia. My name was then submitted for regional competition with other state winners from Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Washington, D.C. I won on the regional level for the entire Mid-Atlantic region. Through their awards program, SBA seeks to recognize outstanding leaders in the small business community.

Foundation

The bedrock of my life is God. The relationship with Him through Jesus Christ brings unending joy, delight, and peace in the midst of trials. Life is hard; God is good.
